The Wildest Wedding of 2022: When Doug Ran Away

Weddings are typically filled with love, joy, and unforgettable moments. However, sometimes unexpected events can lead to an entirely different kind of wedding experience. Today, I want to share with you the wildest wedding story of 2022, when Doug the dog ran away just hours before the ceremony.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning, the sun was shining brightly as the bride and groom were getting ready for their much-anticipated wedding day. Erin Estate was stunning as always, and everyone was relaxing and having a great time.  

Recently, Alexis and Anthony adopted Doug the dog, into their family.  He was still a little nervous around people, so Doug went to daycare for the day - or so we thought.  While the bridal party was getting their hair and makeup done, Alexis got the call that Doug had jumped the fence and taken off! Alexis and Anthony were left in shock as they realized their four-legged companion was missing, instantly understanding that their whole wedding day was about to take an unexpected twist.

Determined not to start their new life together without Doug, the couple put their wedding attire aside and embarked on an urgent mission to find their little runaway friend. With family members and friends by their side, the search began.

They combed through the neighbourhood, calling Doug's name.  We searched the area with our drones and call anyone we could think of to see if anyone had found Doug. The hours ticked by, filled with anxiety and anticipation. The wedding, once the center of their universe, seemed like a distant memory.

As the sun started to set over the horizon, hope began to fade. Exhausted and heartbroken, Alexis returned to the Estate, reluctantly accepting the possibility of moving forward with the wedding without Doug, knowing that they would have to pick up the search again tomorrow. Anthony and his groomsmen decided to do one last sweep of the area in a desperate attempt to find Doug while everyone else headed back to the Estate to get ready. 

Earlier that day, the estate staff had given Trent some cold cuts and other snacks to feed everyone while they were searching. Trent brought some cold cuts to Anthony, and they devised a plan to leave them out in certain locations to bait Doug to come out of hiding. It took some patients, but the plan finally paid off as Doug snuck out of his hiding spot for some tasty treats!  With some quick thinking, Anthony grabbed some more meat and managed to lure Doug right into his arms. 

It felt sombre at the Estate without Doug. Trent and Tamsin both had their cameras out and were trying to bring up the mood to help everyone get in the wedding spirit. In a moment, everything changed.  Anthony called Alexis’s mother and told them that they found Doug. Then, just like that, tears of sorrow quickly turned to tears of joy.  The room erupted with cheers. 

Anthony’s return with Doug to his soon-to-be bride was a beautiful, emotion-charged moment we were so honoured to be a part of.  With Doug back by their side, they were ready to get married, with their hearts filled with joy. Although the original plans had gone awry, they were determined to make the most out of the situation.

All of the wedding vendors and guests pitched in and, despite the unusual circumstances, managed to pull together a late-night wedding. It was a wedding filled with emotion, resilience, and love that had been tested and proven.

The wildest wedding of 2022 taught us a few valuable lessons. Firstly, that love knows no bounds and can overcome any unexpected obstacles. Secondly, it reminded us that sometimes the most memorable moments in life are not the ones meticulously planned but the ones that unfold organically and authentically. Finally, it reminded us of the importance of our furry friends in our lives. Doug's disappearance may have delayed the wedding, but it also served as a reminder of the unconditional love and companionship that dogs bring into our lives.

As we look back on the wildest wedding of 2022, we are reminded that sometimes the unexpected can lead to beautiful and unexpected outcomes. Who knew that a runaway dog would bring a couple and their loved ones closer than ever before, creating a wedding that will be talked about for years to come?
